| Storage Notes | Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area at 2–8°C. Protect from light, moisture, and air. Keep container tightly sealed in the original packaging. Store powder at -20°C for long-term stability (up to 3 years); at 4°C for short-term storage (days to weeks). Light-sensitive and hygroscopic material; avoid prolonged exposure to light and humid conditions. The edisilate salt provides significantly enhanced stability compared to the free base (oil at room temperature, mp ~5.8°C) and is the preferred form for pharmaceutical formulations. Store away from strong oxidizing agents and incompatible substances. Do not freeze syrup formulations. |

Clomethiazole Edisilate (also known as chlormethiazole edisylate, Heminevrin, or Distraneurin) is the ethanedisulfonate salt of clomethiazole, a thiazole derivative structurally related to thiamine (vitamin B1). It functions as a potent GABAA receptor agonist and positive allosteric modulator at the barbiturate/picrotoxin site, producing sedative, hypnotic, muscle relaxant, and anticonvulsant effects. Used as a pharmaceutical intermediate and active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for the development and quality control of oral solutions, syrups, capsules, and infusion formulations. Approved for clinical use in the management of acute alcohol withdrawal, delirium tremens, status epilepticus, restlessness and agitation in the elderly, short-term treatment of severe insomnia, and pre-anaesthetic sedation. ATC code: N05CM02. Also employed as a reference standard in analytical method development, forced degradation studies, and pharmacopoeial compliance testing.
